When her hair started falling out, she tied a tiny ribbon to his horn—“Now we match,” she told him.

Months later, Lila finished her last treatment. She brought Cloud to the hospital playroom and left him there, with a note: “This is a guardian dragon. He’ll keep you cozy too.”

A nurse later told Lila: A little boy (also in chemo) now carries Cloud everywhere. “He says the dragon has ‘magic cozy powers,’” the nurse said.
